inventory system huh? Well, I get my ideas from games I've played, and make a whole new system from it. Here\s some games that might be useful to look at:
Final Fantasy (The name has fantasy in it so...)
Legend of Dragoon (Nice, but not bad, it gives a more of a book feel to it)
Pokemon games (If you don't know your fail lol)
Mario Rpg games for the handhelds (Nintendo gives Mario's rpgs a unique visual feel)
Paper Mario (my favorite rpg game, the options are decent.
To really get help with your game try to include more information to make a more direct and accurate approach to the question.
Re: Hmm.......
Try rereading my post, I said Final Fantasy styled inventory. Not Fantasy Styled inventory.
I want it to be like the final Fantasy games inventories but I just can't seem to code it.

Re: Hmm.......
goto gmc.yoyogames.com for some cool tutorials examples etc. thats where I went for my help.
Re: Hmm.......
None of the tutorials detail how to make a proper intventory system or store values and such. I tried the tutorials when I first started using gamemaker.

Making an inventoery system is hard, especially Final Fantasy's. Before making one you should be aware of how to store variables and using every function Game Maker has to offer. That's what I had to do, and it's going pretty well.
I do know how to make an inventory screen, but it's not like walking in a park. It's freaking hard. You'll need variables for your items, your coordinates, your stats, and I'm not even hitting the icing on the cake
Though I'm making it look hard, but it's ALL numbers. You should look up tutorials on similar inventories to see how they work. Once you got that down look on how you can convert you knowledge into making your Final Fantasy Engine.
Even though you might know how to code something, if you don't know how to distribute variables, call, change, set, or make one, coding will be extremely hard and frustrating.
So in short, look for an awesome guide to coding (for begginners) and read it. Some can be found at gmc, but other sites can be better. So when you got that down try to use them in other situations then work from there. TRUST ME, it WORKS!!!
Here's a couple tutorials I found that helped me:
http://gm.destronmedia.com/?page_id=104&did=25 (This is for Game Maker 7, but It all teaches the same thing.)
http://gmtutorials.com/ (Best site EVER for game maker period.)
there's other sites that helped, but I don't wanna go through to find them right now...So anyways learn variables use them, then make your inventory game. Have fun...or at least try
